A Quick Guide to the Ryder Cup 2010
The 38th Ryder Cup is coming to Wales at the beginning of October, hosted by Celtic Manor Golf Resort and this year's cup shaping up to be another classic. With two teams packed full of the world's best golfers, there is sure to be some magical moments.
Looking at the Ryder Cup betting picks will tell you that this year's tournament will be as exciting as ever. The over all Ryder Cup odds for this year look to be slightly in favour of the European team where home advantage could be a deciding factor. The current standings however are at 7 wins each since the change to the tournaments current format and so it is sure to be a closely fought affair.
Recent form suggests that the Europeans are favourites, winning 5 out of 7 of the last few tournaments and they have also not lost on home soil since 1993 at The Belfry. However last time out in Kentucky the Americans won convincingly by 16 ½ points to 11 ½ points and will be looking to retain the Ryder Cup in Europe for the first time since 1993.
In terms of top individual performances, the Ryder Cup betting odds have classed Tiger Woods amongst the favourites for the USA, despite his recent spell of indifferent form. Less renowned players such as Rickie Fowler and Jeff Overton are not as well fancied, but may just prove people wrong come October 1st. Hunter Mahan was relatively unknown before the last Ryder Cup, but came away as one of the top performers for the USA.
In terms of the betting odds for the top European performer, the bookmakers seem to favour the form players of the moment such as Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Luke Donald. However, the recent record of players such as Edoardo Molinari, one of the wild card picks for this year's event, cannot be discounted. Having had two tour wins this year, he has also beaten players such as Paul Casey and Justin Rose to a place in the team.
The weather conditions on the day could also play an key part, as South Wales is particularly susceptible to severe winds and the potential for rain. In this situation, it will be all about who can adapt to the conditions. The Celtic Manor course has some intensive rough and plenty of water and so will punish any wild shots. This should build the foundations for some fantastic matchplay.
